The Gretsch ‘Broadkaster’ was the legendary drum choice for big bands and Jazz groups from the 20’s through the 50’s making famous the term ‘That Great Gretsch Sound’. In recent times and using modern build methods Gretsch have brought back the Broadkaster range as a premium level offering and praise the lord, because…wow this is amazing!
This kit is not only brand new, but is fortunate to feature a matching snare and the colour is just sublime, it’s the kit and colour choice Gretsch have chosen to showcase the range on their website so that must tell you something. It’s called Ruby RedPearl and it’s in the Nitron gloss finish…simply beautiful. It has a vintage style with oodles of class and delivers exactly what you would expect in terms of sonic brilliance.
Configuration & Build
The configuration of this kit is the classic retro four piece featuring an 18” Bass Drum with Floor Tom, StandTom and the matching Snare we mentioned.
The shells are made from the Gretsch maple/poplar/maple formula and are of course batch serial number matching across the set, being date stamped December 2018. The shells are built with an interior-ply scarf joint that gives structural strength and then finished with classic Gretsch Silver Sealer. The shell is hand finished in the USA factory in South Carolina with a reverse round over bearing edge for greater contact between edge and drumhead, all this means the tone is deep and warm according to Gretsch.
All Gretsch drums are outfitted with “302” 3mm double flanged steel hoops constructed from heavy gauge steel to help create a nice and warm, open tone.
This kit has been made with the standard hardware package and which features floor tom leg brackets and a Remo Fiberskyn bass drum vintage Gretsch logo.
The kit is finished in Nitron one of three finishes available from Gretsch across their range and simply stunning with the Ruby Red Pearl.

What we think…
Generally, we go for the Rock drums from the other USA custom shops we love as our first choice, but man…this kit has stolen a place in our hearts! it’s beautiful looking and takes up a small footprint so just perfect for those tight spots when a great sound is needed. It’s a top class kit with all the best features and pretty rare to find, especially in this gorgeous red pearl wrap, we think this belongs atRonnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
