At C n’ C we love Signature Series models and this one is amongst the best we’ve ever seen! It’s a faithful recreation of the 1967 Gibson SG that Hendrix played on the now famous Dick Cavett Show in 1969. It’s a limited edition, one of just 150, made in right-handed format and hand made by the experts at the Gibson Murphy Lab.
Anything that comes from the Tom Murphy stable is usually special but this is off the charts special! As soon as you open the special edition case the guitar just shines and sparkles. The aged Polaris white finish, which is a rich, creamy white is stunning and it’s adorned with vintage and aged gold fittings and hardware. If you’re reading this you will no doubt know Hendrix was mainly a Strat guy but he explored other guitars including this SG which he played on one of the only television appearances he ever made (that’s worth a watch by the way!), he also had a flying V that Gibson have also recreated, which is equally impressive and we have or had one of those at C n’ C too!
So, to the features bit…It’s a Mahogany constructed instrument with a 60’s SlimTaper neck profile and powered by dual Gibson Custom Bucker pickups creating an authentic vintage tone and which feature true historic aged gold covers. Its period correct and authentic features extend to include the “Batwing” 67 custom pickguard constructed in 3-Ply white/black/white, black witch hat control knobs with gold inserts, a gorgeous long maestro vibrola tailpiece and top notch Kluson waffle back tuners also in aged gold.
Accessories and Candy are as you might expect special too, it comes with a Hendrix branded truss rod cover, Certificate of authenticity, Hendrix picks and limited edition 5” x 7” archival print of Jimi Hendrix courtesy of Kramer Archives and signed by engineer/producer Eddie Kramer. The case is a special edition Jimi Hendrix SG hardshell case made for this limited edition.
This came from a top-level collector and it is in mint condition, it comes with all case candy and all its bits and bobs – all original and as it left the factory in the USA.

What we think:-
C n’ C’s Stang loves Jimi Hendrix and his favourite guitar design is the SG… so this one will be hard to part with. It is simply stunning and unlike any other SG you will see. The Tom Murphy treatment adds so much to any edition but somehow this is a level up. The aged Polaris white (almost yellow) is simply fantastic with authentic checking through the Murphy Lab aging process, tarnished gold hardware adorns the body and just takes you back in time to the 1960’s. This is likely an out and out collector’s choice and a shrewd investment but in any case, it should be put on display for all to marvel and enjoy – very special indeed!
